What is Melanotan II?
Melanotan II is a synthetic cyclic lactam analogue of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH).
What it's studied for
Melanotan II is non-selective across the melanocortin receptor family, which is exactly why it appears so often in receptor-pharmacology work — it is the broad comparator against which selective MC1R and MC4R ligands are characterised. It is not approved for human use in Australia.
